Closed Tornado Watch/WarningIn communication with our local Emergency Management Agency (EMA), we have determined that numerous downed trees, power lines, structural damage, and hazardous road conditions make bus travel unsafe. Additionally, some rural roads remain impassable, and we do not want to increase travel that could hinder our local volunteers working to restore the community and ensure safe conditions. As a result, Gordo High School and Gordo Elementary School will be closed on Monday, March 17, 2025. Gordo High School students will not report to the career center. 3/17/2025 9:52:10 AM

1/21/2025Pickens CountyAll SchoolsClosed Snow/IcePickens County Families, Faculty, and Staff, Due to the extreme cold and the possibility of hazardous travel, all Pickens County schools and offices will be closed on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. All extracurricular activities scheduled for January 21, 2025, are canceled. The most recent forecast places Pickens County right on the edge of the predicted winter weather impact area. If the weather pattern shifts or if we experience any precipitation, it could result in significant travel issues due to the extremely cold ground temperatures. This forecast is very similar to the one from January 28, 2014, when the impact area unexpectedly shifted north, and roads quickly became impassable. While there is a possibility of no precipitation on Tuesday, we cannot risk the safety of our students, faculty, staff, and families. As a large county, different areas may experience varying weather conditions on Tuesday. Safety remains our top priority, and we must make decisions that prioritize the well-being of all our schools and bus routes. Please stay safe and remain weather aware. We will provide updates on Tuesday afternoon regarding plans for Wednesday, January 22. Thank you, Office of the Superintendent1/20/2025 1:21:48 PM
